6. März 2025, 11.30-12.30h: Informationstermin DSPL60 und VDTR
Jedes Semester findet eine Informationsveranstaltung statt, bei der die Doctoral School und die DSPL60 kurz vorgestellt werden. An diesem Termin sind auch Mitarbeitende des SSC anwesend, um Fragen zu administrativen Aspekten des Doktoratsstudiums zu beantworten. Bitte melden Sie sich mit dem Formular an, der Termin findet nur statt, wenn sich mindestens fünf Personen anmelden. Sowohl eingeschriebene Doktorand:innen als auch Interessierte sind herzlich willkommen!

24. März 2025, 13.15-18.15h: Übungsnachmittag Academic Writing
Im Anschluss an den/die letzten VDTR-Workshop(s) zu Forschungsmethoden und wissenschaftlichem Schreiben laden wir Sie zu einem begleiteten Übungsnachmittag ein, bei dem wir an unseren Bibliographien arbeiten werden. Auch wenn Sie noch nicht an einem VDTR-Workshop zum wissenschaftlichen Schreiben teilgenommen haben, sind Sie herzlich eingeladen teilzunehmen.
Der Workshop wird von Julia Weingartler, Praedoc Assistentin am Institut für Kirchenrecht und Religionsrecht, und Christina Dietl, Praedoc Assistentin am Lehrstuhl für Liturgiewissenschaft und Sakramententheologie, geleitet und findet ausschließlich in Präsenz statt.
Was Sie wissen sollten:
- Wir üben Zitieren sowie das Erstellen von Literaturverzeichnissen nach den Zitierrichtlinien für wissenschaftliche Arbeiten der Katholisch-Theologischen Fakultät. Bitte lesen Sie sie vor der Teilnahme am Workshop durch.
- Zu Übungszwecken werden Bücher und Zeitschriften zur Verfügung gestellt. Sie können aber auch Bücher, Artikel und Quellen mitbringen, die Sie für Ihre eigene Arbeit benötigen.
- Bitte bringen Sie (wenn möglich) Ihren eigenen Laptop mit.
- Auf Wunsch geben wir eine kurze Einführung in die Zitiersoftware Citavi und in die Grundlagen des wissenschaftlichen Schreibens. Vor allem aber werden wir die Zeit nutzen, um das wissenschaftliche Schreiben bzw. die Arbeit an der Bibliographie zu üben.
- Wir machen auch Kaffeepausen :-)

Completing a major project—especially one as significant as your dissertation—is no small feat. The finish line is in sight, yet the path may feel less straightforward than you had anticipated or hoped. At the same time, completing your dissertation comes with a sense of loss: the project that has been your constant companion for so long will soon be behind you, along with the structure and direction it provided. So, how do you navigate these challenges and prepare for what comes next?
If any of this resonates with you, you’re not alone. This workshop offers a space to share your experiences, gain fresh perspectives, and receive practical advice. Designed around your concerns, it provides actionable insights, answers to pressing questions, and inspiration drawn from the experiences and best practices of your peers.
Self-organisation: (Self-)evaluation, Final Decisions, Final Efforts, Final Revisions

As your project nears completion, motivation and self-organization often become more fragile. The initial excitement has long since turned into a demanding workload—introductions and conclusions still need to be written, to-do lists keep growing, and time estimates frequently prove to be optimistic at best. Meanwhile, deadlines loom at an alarming pace, yet clear milestones to structure your progress may be lacking.
Adding to the challenge, assessing your own work can be difficult: Is it good enough? How much more refinement is needed? Supervisor feedback becomes both essential and intimidating at this stage.
What we do in this session
- Identify common pitfalls in the final phase of a dissertation and how to overcome them.
- Explore practical strategies for time management, setting priorities, and maintaining motivation.
- Discuss self-evaluation techniques to help you assess your work with confidence.
- Develop approaches for structuring final revisions efficiently.
- Reflect on how to communicate effectively with your supervisor to get the support you need.
Through guided exercises, discussion, and shared insights, this session will help you refine your self-organization strategies, manage stress, and move toward a confident dissertation submission.

The Final Stretch: The Supervisor's Perspective

Preparing for Transition

Defending your thesis is more than just a final academic requirement—it is a moment of commitment to your work. How do you want to present and highlight your key findings? What kinds of questions and critical remarks might arise from the reviews, and how can you position yourself effectively in response?At the same time, your defense marks a significant transition: you are no longer just a student but stepping into the academic world as a “mature” scholar. While preparing for this milestone, you also need to look ahead—what comes next? The future may feel uncertain, as continuity in academia is not guaranteed. You may be stepping away from a structured environment, possibly even from academia itself, and entering a competitive job market. But rather than viewing this transition as a source of anxiety, how can you turn it into an opportunity—one that opens new perspectives?

- Mindset & Self-Presentation: Exploring the right attitude for your defense—balancing authority, openness, and resilience.

19. Mai 2025: 9.45 - 13h: Workshop zur Organisation wissenschaftlicher Konferenzen
Konferenzen bringen Forschende zusammen, um aktuelle Erkenntnisse zu teilen, neue Kooperationen einzugehen und interdisziplinären Austausch zu ermöglichen. Die Organisation wissenschaftlicher Konferenzen erfordert Planung, Budgetierung, Kommunikation und logistische Koordination – Fähigkeiten, die in vielen Bereichen gefragt sind. Dieser Workshop bietet die Gelegenheit für Doktorand*innen, praktische Einblicke in die Organisation wissenschaftlicher Konferenzen zu erhalten!
Im Juli 2025 findet die Jahreskonferenz der European Academy of Religion EuARe in Wien statt. Ausgerichtet wird die Konferenz vom Forschungszentrum Religion and Transformation in Contemporary Society RaT. Zur Konferenz wird es eine begleitende Lehrveranstaltung geben, die Studierenden die Möglichkeit bietet, praktische Erfahrungen in der Organisation wissenschaftlicher Fachtagungen zu sammeln.
Die erste Einheit der Lehrveranstaltung am 19. Mai von 9.45 - 13.00h statt und ist für Mitglieder der VDTR auch als Einzeltermin belegbar und wird eine grundlegende Einführung in Konferenzorganisation und die Rolle von Konferenzen als Ort wissenschaftlichen Austausches bieten.
